With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I used to teach piano in people's homes for a living and write contemporary classical music with the little commissioning opportunities I had. When the pandemic came, I had to go on a mad scramble to make online lessons work.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

Grumpy Kitty Box was only a very young project then, but I had plans for a debut EP since 2019. Securing a timeline though was finicky due to my collaborator's circumstances. The sudden halt made me realize that I should just do something—it's either now or never! I decided to push a debut single release in the summer of 2020, and now I have a brand new EP (Show Me The Kibbles) this February and plans for another EP release in December or early 2022.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

Grumpy Kitty Boy fills up my time now—producing tracks for my projects, or doing admin work. I play Cities: Skylines (sim city building game) now more than ever. I used to enjoy biking around, but all motivation for outdoor stuff vanished during the pandemic. It still feels very lonely, but I just started reclaiming more "me- time" again and go for 45-minute afternoon walks during the week.

How are dealing with the Covid second wave?

Staying home and wearing masks when outdoors are just the necessary things I have to do on my part. I still teach online, and hopefully I can start getting back on my wheels this spring.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

Stop pretending that everything is ok! Don't deny yourself the need to be real and authentic at this time. Embrace the grumpy and take care of it! Take it from a Grumpy Kitty Boy. (laughs)
